 Bodrum: (30 mins from Bodrum airport). Bodrum is Turkey's most vibrant and cosmopolitan resort and is where the East meets West in a beautiful setting. Bodrum's strict planning rules have blended the old and new beautifully, with gleaming whitewashed houses spilling down terraced hillsides to two bays, each filled with yachts and overlooked by an impressive' 15th century castle. The winding streets are packed with restaurants, shops, street cafes and bazaars selling souvenirs, whilst the marina is a hive of activity. Some of your daytime should be spent in the beautiful town itself as it's a worthy sight. Other places are the castle and its archaeological museum, a stone amphitheatre and the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Nighttime should be spent at one of the many music bars in the centre or waterfront areas. There are also some impressive discos. A trip to the Greek Island of Kos or Rhodes is well worth booking on one of the local ferries. The best beach in the area is Bardaci Bay Beach which is just over a mile from the centre of Bodrum and there are several other good beaches to the west, the Bay of Bitez is a particular favourite, with gently shelving sands and a good reputation for windsurfing.
